SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT - CALL FOR PAPERS
SURFACE CANADA '95
The XVth Canadian Conference on Surface Science - SURFACE CANADA '95 will be held at the University of Waterloo on May 25 (Thursday) to 27 (Saturday), 1995. The conference is the biennial meeting of the Division of Surface Science (DSS) of the Canadian S
ociety for Chemistry (CSC) and the Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP) and provides a forum for topics of current interest in experimental and theoretical surface science, both of fundamental and applied nature. SURFACE CANADA '95 will feature a ser
ies of wide-ranging talks on a variety of selected topics, and will be marked by a Special Symposium, organized for the afternoon of May 26, to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Progress in Surface Science. (The plenary and invited talks will be publishe
d in Volume 50 of Progress in Surface Science.) The conference immediately precedes the annual CSC meeting to be held in Guelph (May 28 - June 1), which features "satellite" symposia on Electrochemical Surface Science and on Surface and Interface Applica
tions of Synchrotron Radiation.

Call for Contributed Papers
Contributed papers are requested on all fundamental and applied aspects of experimental and theoretical surface science. A book of abstracts of all contributions will be distributed to registrants at the time of arrival. The majority of the contributed
papers will be presented as posters, which will be the main medium of the conference, and are all qualified for the competition for the newly introduced Best Poster Award. A very limited number of papers will be selected from the submitted abstracts to b
e presented as talks on the basis of general interest and established protocol used in previous meetings. Authors wishing to contribute a paper are requested to submit two copies of one camera-ready (laser-printed or type-written but not dot-matrix-print
ed), letter-size page (8.5" x 11") abstract with the following format: 1.5" margins all around, minimal font size of 12 points or greater, and line spacing of no more than 6 lines per inch (or single-spaced). The title should be in bold face. The deadli
ne for receiving abstracts is March 24, 1995.
Call for Nomination of Best Student Presentation
Graduate students are strongly encouraged to participate in the conference and take part in the competition for the J. P. Hobson Award, which is presented for the best student oral presentation. Interested students should submit a detailed one-page abstra
ct (as discussed above), along with a nomination letter from their supervisor. From the collected entries, the executives of the DSS will select 6-8 finalists to make the oral presentations in a special afternoon session. The winner will receive a cash
prize.
Registration
The registration fee (in Canadian dollars) includes three lunches and the conference banquet.
On or before February 24, 1995
- Members of Division of Surface Science .....................$230
- Non-members ............................................................$260
- Students .....................................................................$130
After Feb 24, 1995 - Add $50 to the above.
Cheque or money order should be made payable to "SURFACE CANADA '95/University of Waterloo". Please return the registration form along with the payment to the Conference Secretary:
Heather Hergott, Chemistry Department, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario N2L 3G1, CANADA.
