“The younger participants in this Discussion should take note how vigorously science rejects novelty. This rejection mechanism is as necessary as the one that operates in living organisms; it prevents the birth of monsters. However, it has the additional effect of making us inherently conservative.” John C. Polanyi, Faraday Discuss., 1997, 108, page 467

The Ozone Hole and Global Climate Change

  • QB Lu, A monograph "New Theories and Predictions on the Ozone Hole and Climate Change", World Scientific Publishing Co. (New Jersey, London, Singapore, July 2015), 308 pages. (Invited book). In contrast to other climate models, Lu’s theoretical models are in excellent (the best) agreements with the observations on the ozone hole and global surface temperature changes.  See a Press Release by WSPC, http://www.worldscientific.com/page/pressroom/2015-07-15-01 .

  • QB Lu, Cosmic-Ray-Driven Reaction and Greenhouse Effect of Halogenated Molecules: Culprits for Atmospheric Ozone Depletion and Global Climate Change, Int. J. Modern Phys B27 (2013) 1350073 (38 pages), available online at: www.worldscientific.com/doi/abs/10.1142/S0217979213500732 ; an earlier version was published at http://arxiv.org/abs/1210.6844 .  A news release about the findings can be found at http://uwaterloo.ca/news/news/global-warming-caused-cfcs-not-carbon-dioxide-study-says.  The paper was also reported by a number of media such as Phys.org (http://phys.org/news/2013-05-global-chlorofluorocarbons-carbon-dioxide.html), Sciencedaily (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/05/130530132443.htm), Wall Street Journal (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323844804578528841152512364.html), CTV, etc.

  • QB Lu, On Cosmic-Ray-Driven Electron Reaction Mechanism for Ozone Hole and Chlorofluorocarbon Mechanism for Global Climate Change” was published at http://arxiv.org/ftp/arxiv/papers/1210/1210.1498.pdf .  This paper gives a response to the Atmospheric Environment paper by Grooss and Muller (2011) and includes the ACE-FTS-carrying Canadian SCISAT-1 satellite’s latitude cover plot, which shows that the “ACE-FTS data” presented in their 2011 AE and 2009 PRL papers are impossible to obtain from the data source.
