Pityopsis graminifolia (Michx.) Small var. tenuifolia Bowers & Semple

This small headed diploid race occurs throughout much of the range of the species in the southeastern United States.  It has been treated in the past as Pityopsis microcephala and Pityopsis graminifolia var. microcephala.
