Fillion Lab Group Members
Siawash (B.Sc., M.Sc., University of Western Ontario) joined the group in Sept 2009. At Western, he worked with Prof. John Corrigan on Ferrocenylmethylchalcogenolate reagents for the preparation of novel group 11/16 polynuclear clusters. His Ph.D. studies in the Fillion group are on new domino reactions of Meldrum’s acid derivatives.
Eric (B.Sc., University of Waterloo Ontario) will commence graduate studies in the group as of January 2013. Eric is a veteran of the lab as he has spent two consecutive summers on NSERC USRA in addition to completing his 494 project and most recently working as a research assistant during the fall term. His graduate research will continue to focus on developing new chemistry with Meldrum’s acid derivatives.
Azadeh (B.Sc., Kharazmi University of Tehran; M.Sc., University of Tehran) joined the group in January 2012. At the University of Tehran, she worked on multi-component reactions for the synthesis of coumarinyl furan derivatives. Her Ph.D. studies in the Fillion group will focus on developing new chemistry with Meldrum’s acid derivatives.
Jiaqi (B.Sc., University of Hebei; Baoding, China) joined the group in Sept 2011. At Hebei he did his undergraduate research project with Prof. Xiaoliu Li on the synthesis of polyamine conjugated naphthalimide derivatives. His graduate studies in the Fillion group are on new palladium-catalyzed reactions of Meldrum’s acid derivatives.
Eric (B.Sc, University of Western Ontario) is a visiting Ph.D student from the Crudden group at Queen’s University. His work there involves the development of new N-heterocyclic carbene complexes of rhodium. Here he is working on developing new catalytic methods involving Meldrum’s acid.
Current Undergraduate Students
Mengxiu is conducting her 4th year research project in the lab as part of her undergraduate chemistry 2+2 degree. Her project will focus on developing new chemistry with Meldrum’s acid derivatives.
