Research Interests

Currently, my interest is in chemical education: trying to identify key threshold concepts in courses I teach, exploring how to help students master those concepts by researching and using evidence-based best practices, and learning more about how to become an effective chemistry teacher. Formally, however, my training is in the development of theoretical models and computational methods for studying collisional energy transfer, gas-phase reactions, and spectroscopy and photodissociation of weakly bound molecular complexes. Click here for more info on that. Because of my long-term personal interest in critically assessing established theoretical or conceptual models, developing new models and using computational methods to test various models, discussion of, or examples of, these things creep into most of the courses I teach.
